“Celebration of World Ozone Day on 16th September, 2017”

 

A One Day brainstorming session on Ozone Layer on theme – “Caring for All Life under Sun” was organised by Deptt of Environment & Forests in PCCF Office Conference Hall, Itanagar on September 16, 2017 coordinated by Shri. D Dohu Robin, Deputy Director (Environment).
 
The One Day workshop on Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) & Ozone Layer was participated by Officers from Other Stakeholder Deptts, Academician, Scholars, Scientist from various Research Institutes (NERIST, RGU, WWF, GBPHIED) and School Children’s from Guardian Angel School, Itanagar.

Earlier Prior to Ozone Day, Painting & Drawing Competition on the theme – Caring for All Life Under Sun was organised through National Green Corps (NGC) Programme, Arunachal Pradesh in various Eco Clubs/ Schools within Itanagar by Shri. Dohu Robin Nodal Officer, National Green Corps Programme Viz.1.Guardian Angel School, itanagar2. Little Flower School, Chimpu, 3. Garden Dew School , Itanagar 4.Doni Polo Vidya Niketan, Itanagar 5.VKV Chimpu, Itanagar, 6.Govt Higher Secondary School Itanagar 7. Govt Higher Secondary School Naharlagun.

The One Day Programme on World Ozone Day began by Welcome address by Shri. T Sitang Eko,IFS CCF & Director (Environment) for the World Ozone Day Function at Conference Hall, Itanagar.

PCCF & Principal Secretary (Environment & Forests) Shri. Omkar Singh in his address to the gathering said we humans are responsible for all the damages although nature has given us everything. we are damaging the Ozone layers by our activities and, we need to protect it as UV rays which is harmful for human being, animals and plants also. We are equally responsible for its setback and we have to act upon to reduce pollution and emission of smoke and harmful gas. He said urbanisation process, growth in industries & factory and felling of trees is leading to Global warming and affecting the ozone layers.

A short movie on Ozone molecules & Harmful effects of ODS on Ozone Layer followed by PPT presentation on various International initiatives taken for protection of Ozone Layer since 1985 and India Govt initiatives for Phasing out ODS Substances was made by Shri. D Dohu Robin, Dy Director (Environment. Mr. Dohu emphasized on importance of Montreal Protocol and its 30th anniversary.

Participating in the function Presentation & speeches were also made by Scientist from following Organisation:-

1. Dr.MS Lodhi, Scientist i/c GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development (GBPIHED) gave elaborate  details on Ozone and present status of Ozone Layer & Ozone Hole & Harmful Substances involved for damages.
 
2. Dr. Hui Tag, Associate Professor Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) Doimukh recipient of prestigious fellowship award  from department of Plant and Social Sciences, Mississippi State University, USA spoke on Ozone Hole concept and
also participated in Brains Storming Session on reply to Queries raised by Guardian Angel School Teachers.

3. Smti. Taba Yall Nabam, Municipal Councillor of Ward No.5 Itanagar Municipality spoke at length on having convergence of All section of society for preservation & Protection of Ozone Layer & Prevent Global Warming. She presented a melodious Song on eve of Ozone Day and enthralled the audiences. She is a noted Singer in Arunachal Pradesh and recently State Govt has already recommended awarding her Gold Medal as State Artist.

4. Dr. Ajay Bharti, Associate Professor in Environmental Engg Deptt, NERIST spoke on Role of Ozone Molecules and its Continuous breakdown and assimilation with Halogens. Dr. Bharti is Member in State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) Arunachal Pradesh. Previously He was Chairman for State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) Arunachal Pradesh

5. Shri. T Gapak,IFS Dy Conservator of Forest (Industry) spoke about importance of Ozone Layer for Earth and asked the
Childrens to be conscious Citizens in our action for Environmental & Ozone Layer Protection in our own small way.

Dr. Kamal Medhi Landscape Coordinator, WWF Tezpur initiated the discussion in the Brain storming Session.

During Last Part after Brainstorming session Dr. Rabindra Kumar, IFS PCCF (Planning & Development) gave a brief overview about Ozone Layer and Treaty made for Ozone Layer Protection by Montreal Protocol.
